THOUSANDS of Islanders turned out on Sunday and yesterday to support the opening legs of the prestigious Tour de Bretagne cycle race.

Holland’s Jetse Bol was the first rider home in Sunday’s first stage held in the east of the Island, and team mate Holland’s Martijn Keizer took the honours in the 10km time-trial held along the Five Mile Road yesterday.

Bol finished sixth overall and ten seconds behind Keizer who completed the picturesque time trial course in 12 minutes and 43 seconds.

It is the first time that a stage of the week-long race has been held outside Brittany and Islanders made the most of the colourful spectacle and the fine weather.
