Tower boss slams Upton officials
Tuesday 27th April 2010, 2:59PM BST.
FIRST Tower manager Simon Petulla has criticised the standard of Guernsey refereeing following his team’s defeat in the under-16 Upton in on Sunday.
Tower’s Sam Crabtree was sent off for allegedly head-butting an opponent and opponents North had six players cautioned by Sarnian referee Ian Drillot.
Petulla, a former Muratti striker, said: ‘The Guernsey officials were terrible and unbelievably biased towards their team. North blatantly went out to kick us off the park and the referee let them get away with it.
‘I’ve three players with stud marks on their legs and the referee deemed them all to be yellow card offences when a couple of them should have been red. I’m first to stick my hand up when we are beaten fair and square but we were the better team throughout and we only had ten.
Petulla said he would be discussing matters with the Tower committee and he would like to see them forward letters of complaint to the relevant bodies involved. He added that the dismissed player would be appealing against his dismissal.

hahah how can u appeal against that decision the player has got a huge stud mark up on his hip not a high challenge? just cuase u lost take it and stop being such a wet bag
Report abuse
It was a hard fought game with no doubt about the best team coming out on top, north showing their talent and winning all 4 trophies
Report abuse
north were the better team so get over it and we have studd marks on us aswell so u cant say we were out to get you
Report abuse
Up the north

How you can even think about appealing the red card is ridiculous. The guy has stud marks at the top of his thigh from the tackle and then gets headbutted!! The ref was fair and i thought he had a good game. Well done North
Report abuse
Both teams played well in what was bound to be a scrappy affair. The referee had a difficult job to do and had no option but to send Crabtree off. The tackle was very high and stud’s first, followed by a head-butt! As coach, Petulla should be setting an example for his players, not condoning such behaviour!
First Tower had more possesion and played well, but North took their chances and thats what counts!
Well done North!
North deserved to win the game we were the better team, tower couldnt handle playing against better players, you jersey lot should man up!!!!
It was a tough fought game, which reminded me of Murrati’s of old. Both teams gave some & took some aswell. North bossed the first half but give Tower their credit, they got themselves back in the game in the second half.
The Ref lost the game a bit in the 2nd half and got a bit card happy. But North took their chances, Tower didn’t.
Bradley Straford could have gone for persistamt moaning at the Ref. He was spoken to at least 3 times when already on a yellow!
The key to it was that North started from the 1st whistle but Tower didn’t get going until the second half.
North were the more pumped up of the two teams and wanted it more. I think First Tower weren’t
expecting North to be so strong & physical.
North were the better team regardless of what Simon Petulla says, that was clear to everyone in the ground. No man of the match was awarded but for me it was North defender Danny Cooley.

HAHAHA !!! If tower had won this game no doubt the papers would be praising how well first tower defeated a Guernsey side. But as they did not the coach has used a scape goat for their loss and blamed the ref both sides fought for it well but North fought harder and better for it and deserved the win , their was no complaints when you won the under 16 murrati but as soon they lose they cant handle it and look to blame someone..i have seen stud marks on the Guernsey player that are above his thighs and then to be headbutted for no reason is a definate sending of if you ask me ..Man up and accept you lost for once
Report abuse
A few stud marks and a headbut and you run off crying, probably having rolled over and over again a hundred times first.
Would love to see these fairies on the rugby field. They wouldn’t last 5 minutes.
The first decent team you come up againest and you don’t battle as hard as us how can you expect to win and as for getting kicked off the pitch, load of rubbish, you lost fair and square to the better team, deal with it get over it. UP THE NORTH!!!!

Jersey website in favour of jersey and yet all comments state different with no disagreement. Think that says it all really.

This is an under 16′s match and the manager makes it sound like the world cup.
Get a grip!!!

My recollection of the day was this ….
This match was the only Jersey/Guernsey football match this season without a Jersey official present ????? Why is that?? The Jersey official being told not to attend…. guess Guernsey had to win something this season so no Jersey influence is a start…..!!
The younger linesman clearly has not been updated on the offside rule… it is NOT an offence to be in an offside position. It is only when the player is interferring with play that he is offside and therefore being on the otherside of the pitch when the ball is kicked probably is NOT interferring ….
During the second half a Guernsey player screamed, shouted and swore at the referee and the referee said nothing, if this was in Jersey (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) the player should have been sent off but at the very least would have been cautioned for decent … shocking!!!!
The fourth official wasn’t without his own agenda either after a Guernsey supporter shouted abuse at a Tower substitute and the fourth official proceeded to discipline the Tower substitute for it… huh????
Lets be honest Guernsey football, at a junior level, has not been impressive. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I say fair play to the First Tower manager for standing up for his team, who were cheated out of the game, not alot of managers would take this stand and it is about time someone did. Well Done you!!!
I note the inaccuracy in the GEP where it claims the Tower player was dismissed for a headbutt yet, the Referee claims it was for the foul… maybe the reporter also thought the foul wasn’t a sending off then and therefore must have been for something more serious… hmmm harsh and controversial sending off I think is a fair conclusion…. and an eagle eye may say that Guernsey North number 7 was perhaps booked twice?? or was there two number 7′s..hmmmmmm…
Next season will be fun I’m sure!

I’ve played in an Upton and one thing you don’t expect is an easy game, tough tackling is the norm. Hip high challenges and head buts are not though, which is why Crabtree was sent off. Stop bleating Petulla, take it like a man.
Interested Party…….Get over it north won fair and square their was ONE number seven and only one card was issued to him they won end of story ..suck eggs
Report abuse
Its “Kevball”, what do you expect!
To all you four leg’d freaks, from now on i suggest you sleep with your eyes open and door locked… p.s you’re all weak football players, should be a professional club !!
Even as a guernsey boy i have to admit that Mr.Petula is correct, it was a harsh decission from a ref who can’t make his mind up, i was there and Crabtree did not headbut him, altho it was a high tackle, Tower were playing the better football but there is only so much you can do with 10 players. settle it at the siam
Report abuse
Great to see inter island rivalry is still as strong as ever. Look forward to reading about the senior Murrati.
Micky Smith.
Hi Simon and Ian if you read this, all good here in NZ

The “bigger” fish from one pond gets Eaten when it swims into a Bigger pond, have the Tower management-supporters got any grace? they lost get over it! thats sport, unpredictable.

Bias as it gets or what! You were more fired up i give it to you but football is not a game of how fired up a team is! We were cheated out of a game which was refereed by 4 Guernseys officials. If it was referee’d by a mutual ref theres no doubt who would have won the game! and i think everbody knows it! Im all for a good tackle but it seems that only one team was aloud to do this! Also these were not good tackles they were dirty, sly tackles because you are not good enough to tackle properly! Maybe because you are too slow! As for Crabtree’s sending off it was ridiculous, the kid was suprised that the ref was going to his pocket because he wasnt expecting any card only for the ref to show him a red which was pathetic! Finally on to Simon (5 time muratti winner) fair play to you for sticking up for your team! Your setting a good example of how a passionate manager should be and some people should take a leaf out of your book! Cheers!

At last, a subject which is of no interest to me whatsoever!

To all you hard, amazing North whoppers…
I just want to congratulate how good all you lot are at football, we were completely out classed in this game and there was no contest who deserved to win.
Infact I pretty surprised how all of you lot aren’t signed on by professional clubs because of how good you are.
Im glad that there was a fair, un-biased, experienced officials as they didnt make the game all about them which was a good thing!
I cant even believe that you lost the Muratti 2-0 because your team is soo good… but I suppose the jersey ref was soo unfair and gave everything to us so at least you got an excuse…
Just wanna say again, thank you for a great game, it was a real pleasure to take part in and im proud for all the North players
Well done- by the way id love to come over and live in Guernsey and play for North but Im not good enough to get in the team

north will do the double next year. no doubt about tht
Report abuse
On a serious note now, unlike my last comment…
I thought Brad Stratford would have been awarded Man Of The Match, like in the last game a Jersey team and Guernsey team faced up to each other when he scored a 40 yard (Steven Gerrard like) and made all of Guernsey look like clowns and not fit enough to lace his boots.
Well done Brad, hopefully it’ll be a harder game next year!
BTW- We would of beaten North 9 times out of 10 and North wouldn’t probably make the top 3 in Jersey, thats how bad you are!!
and i dont think its the donkeys taking it as if its a world cup, i think its you lot for complaing and crying like babies too be fair, face it you lost!

Netball girls returned to Jersey with all 3 trophies last weekend………..absolutely no competition put up whatsoever, with two out of the three games having scores of over double in Jersey’s favour.
No aggro necessary….just got the job done and went home
Netball….a real sport!

Jersey rugby also thrashed all Guernsey teams too, with the exception of one draw I believe.
Rugby, a real sport too, and I agree, netball a real sport, and far more manly than girly football.
