TWO rugby legends are involved in the Siam Cup build-up in Jersey and Guernsey.

While Ireland hero Willie John McBride will be handing out Siam Cup shirts to the Guernsey squad this evening, it is fellow Lions star David Duckham, the former England wing ace, who will be the guest of honour at tonight’s pre-Siam Cup dinner at the Jersey Rugby Club.

The annual battle for the second-oldest trophy in rugby union – only the Calcutta Cup is older – will take place in Guernsey on Saturday after Jersey’s involvement and success in the National III Champions Cup forced a fixture change and, unfortunately, travel headaches for Jersey fans.

It is expected far fewer than usual will be able to make it to Foote’s Lane due to lack of public transport to Guernsey on the Saturday. That’s despite it being a huge sporting weekend in the Channel Islands, including 14 Island entries for the Sarnians’ big horse race meeting on Monday at L’Ancresse, a Junior Football Upton at Springfield on Saturday and the Ladies Kleinwort Benson Muratti, also in Jersey, on Sunday.
