ABUSE of the elderly is one of the issues being looked at as part of the biggest ever bullying survey launched in Jersey.

There is currently no significant data on bullying, apart from that held by the Education Department. But a three-month survey into all aspects of bullying is being carried out by Jersey’s Community Relations Trust.

This will include looking at whether elderly residents in care homes, or those with outside carers, are being bullied by the very people entrusted to look after them.

Senior youth worker Hannah Clarke, who is involved with the trust, said that the survey was open to everyone. ‘We have only heard anecdotal evidence about bullying, but there is no Island-wide data,’ she said.

The survey was launched on 19 April and the Trust are encouraging people – whether they have been bullied or not – to take part.

The survey can be found by clicking here: Community Relations Trust Bullying Survey

Copies of the survey and drop off boxes can be found in the majority of the Parish Halls, the Citizens Advice Bureau, and Age Concern.

The survey will remain open for three months and the results will be published later this year.

If you honestly believe that you will be able to come up with data stating people are being bullied you must be delusional, it’s been going on for decades, no one has or will address this issue so save your time and money !!!

    true mogit.
It has being going on for years.
Seen it heard it and mostly the same ones who the bullies knew would or could not fight back.
Say anything or report them and you were the bad guy.

I agree with this survey and it should include the public service unions who bully folk into taking action against their employers.

Sounds a good idea to me. Many elderly people are bullied into doing things they don’t want to do. I don’t think enough respect is given to the older members of our society.

I think that this is a wonderful initiative. No doubt whoever is doing it has learnt from other surveys on bullying in the UK and is using the data. Data on elderley as well as schools even the local government needs to be considerd.

I hope the survey includes the States Memebers.

Just becasue it has been going on for years, just becasue it always happens, and just because doing anything to stop it is a waste of time and money is EXACTLY the reason it continues.
The survey is only a starting point to find out exactly who is doing what and how we should try and stop it.
If the results can stop one person from killing themselves due to bullying then I think it is money and time well spent!

Brilliant idea but its needs to encompass every organisation as it is endemic in jersey business – too many people think they are god – bullying shows insecurity with themselves!!!! so dont take it out on others.
