SWAMPED by around 1,800 travelling supporters, Jerseyman Brett Pitman was at the centre of AFC Bournemouth’s celebrations last Saturday as they gained promotion from League Two in the Football League.

Pitman got the party rolling by scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 victory at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium and at the final whistle he was hoisted should-high by his team’s supporters after they had run on to the pitch to celebrate clinching promotion.

Pitman said: ‘It was unbelievable. We knew before the game that we had a chance of winning promotion and when the final whistle went it turned out to be a fantastic day.

‘There was a sea of red and black running towards me and I didn’t know which way to turn or what to do. I’ve seen it happen before on television but when it happens to you, you just don’t know what to do. Looking back it was a nice moment and it is something I am never going to forget.’
