New pounds in your pocket
Thursday 29th April 2010, 2:58PM BST.
JERSEY’S new banknotes went into circulation this morning.
In the next eight weeks, £20 million-worth will be issued, but old-style money will continue to be legal tender and will remain in circulation until the end of its useful life. It is the first time in 20 years that Jersey money has been given a redesign.
The new notes, which were officially launched in February, feature several of the Island’s historically important buildings, from castles to cottages.
The back of each note carries the words États de Jersey as well as each of the 12 parish crests.

And how much did this redesign cost?

I like the 50 quid notes, stronger colour for stronger value – very nice.

I can think of another currency that looks very similar to these!!

How much did this project cost the taxpayer and can it really be justified as being necessary especially when the likes of health and education are being forced to find things to cut back their spending on??

Great,
They look like “The Euro”
Now the old folks will have trouble making them-out

It’s good to see Her Majesty so splendidly drawn on the new currency. I wasn’t too keen on the last pictures, but these new ones are much better.
Indeed, if I were an Englishman then I’d be feeling quite patriotic right now. However, I am not.
Still, as an avid admirer of the English royal family, I can still take great pleasure in seeing the English monarch in all her glory.

Well that was a real nescessary expense in these troubled times…take perfectly good designs and consign them to what looks like Monopoly money..and the way things are going it will soon have about the same value…………

@8 Truthseeker
Thank you, that’s what they remind me of, Monoploy money with a touch of Euro thrown in for good measure.
What a waste of money – pun almost intened.

In 1970 £4 2s 6d had approximately the same value as the £50 note in the picture above has now truthseeker.

The new notes look great. Is it just me or does the queen look like her (sadly missed) dear old mum.

Are they plastic or paper?. Plastic ones last longer and are less vulnerable to counterfeiting
Report abuse
No good to me i use plastic……………

10 That is scary when thought about……..

I still prefer English notes, they are worth much more than the begsy Jersey ones…

Still spending money on fripperies we don,t need,as if there,s no tomorrow.
And telling us we must tighten our belts.
They should take a leaf out of their own book and stop wasting money.
A pound is a pound whichever way they try to dress it up!
it looks like monopoly money!!! lets hope we don’t go bankcrupt !
Maybe the States could print these notes like there is no tomorrow and hyper-inflate it’s value.
….we might then be able to afford to buy an average Jersey house
Report abuse
classic States scenerio…. on Thursday when they distributed the new notes to retail outlets via the banks( ie for till-floats) not only do they give you nice new-design crisp £1 notes BUT also lots of NEW “old”-design £1 notes…!!!! er didn’t some-one think to stop the printers printing the pre-thursday notes at the beginging of the year?!?

Paint by numbers, notes again! More useless time and money wasting ideas, BUT nice touch with the Parishes !
So why not wait and print the New Flag on them, or is that going to happen next year, New notes!!!
How come the queen is wearing her crown on the new notes?
I thought that as ‘the queen our duke’ she wasn’t meant to wear one in Jersey (probably the channel islands actually)?
If you don’t know what i’m talking about look at the english notes next to ours and see the difference

I wish they had the word “sterling” so we could use them in the UK
Report abuse
Cathy, you can use them in the UK but they are not as soft as the usual stuff.
