THERE will be no complacency as Jersey head for Foote’s Lane to play in this year’s Siam Cup tomorrow.

JRFC’s director of rugby, Ben Harvey, maintains that his players are fully motivated – perhaps more so than in previous years – as they aim to retain the 90-year-old trophy, for extra two reasons.

First, the last time they played for it in Guernsey they lost and second, players are vying for the right to play at Twickenham in eight days’ time.

‘Yes, it’s a spur to the players for a place in the squad,’ said Harvey. ‘It’s a big prize next week. And they’ll not forget the last time they played in Guernsey. I know they’ll be dangerous and that this is a one-off cup game. League places (Jersey are two divisions higher) mean nothing on a day like this.’
