I WOULD like to respond to comments made by Michael de Petrovsky (JEP, 28 April) about his attitude towards all the skateboarders who use the facilities at the harbour. These people campaigned hard to find somewhere suitable for them to enjoy what they do, so for him to suggest that they build this park on top of the new incinerator is deplorable.

It took a long time for these guys to find another site for the skatepark after having to give up the previous one at Jardin de la Mer. I don’t know where this guy grew up, maybe he is the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I don’t know. To suggest that these people, who are not all teenagers may I add, are all hooligans is again unfounded. Does he have any proof regarding this comment?

If Jersey Harbours are not happy about the location of the skatepark should they not be the ones complaining to the States. It seems to me that people who want to enjoy their hobby are being punished by this type of person who has nothing better to do but complain about everything in their little complaint book.

Not everyone likes boats so maybe we should land fill the marina and make a massive skatepark and hold international competitions instead and give Mr de Petrovsky the opportunity to present all the awards.

The last thing I would like to state is that I am not a skater and, to be honest, I can’t even stand on one without falling over but I believe that everyone has the right to enjoy life without being forced to move every time someone is unhappy. So, on that note – happy skating.
