Plenty to do and see close to Les Ormes

Tuesday 4th May 2010, 3:00PM BST.

From Mike Graham, general manager, Bosdet Foundation.
THE reference by Eric Smart (JEP, 28 April) to Les Ormes being potentially similar to a Center Parcs is appropriate. Actually there is far more to do and see at Les Ormes and within the surrounding couple of miles.

At Les Ormes there is a nine-hole golf course, four indoor tennis courts, three new indoor football pitches, a gym and indoor pool, large restaurant, retail shop, hair and beauty salon, indoor golf simulator, high rope and adventure facility.

Nearby there is Jersey Bowl, Les Quennevais sports centre, surfing, sailing, kayaking, horse riding, cycling on the Railway Walk and green lanes, walking on the sand dunes and coastal paths, blow karting, jet skiing, abseiling, coasteering, and climbing.

My point is Jersey has it all and is ideal for what UK families now want. All the UK holiday companies are pushing active holidays and Jersey has more to offer than other destinations. We should shout about it and encourage the further develop of Jersey as an active destination.

Developing Les Ormes further also helps the charity distribution of the Bosdet Foundation as there are no shareholders to pay; our charity sub-group recently handed out £71,000 to local causes with £100,000 due to be paid to Maison St Brelade. What a win win situation for Jersey.

The Bosdet Foundation is currently completing three large high-quality self-catering units to add to the 31 we already have. These new units have provided work for a whole range of construction firms. An economic stimulus at no cost to the taxpayer. In a few weeks they will be filled with tourists.

These tourists in turn have paid for their flights or ferry enabling us locals to have great transport links from the Island.

They will pass through our ports paying taxes. Local activity companies, restaurants, and retail in town will all gain. Most will hire a car and when they fill it up with fuel more taxes come to the Island. Importantly Durrell and Heritage will gain with extra visitors they so badly need.

If we don’t get behind tourism projects will all the things that we love like our Heritage and Durrell still be around in ten years time? How many jobs will be lost and will we be left totally dependent on the finance industry?

    BleuSoleil Camping

Very true I applaud Mike Graham, for this we at BleuSoleil are promoting Jersey in the same way as well, this Island can offer a lot to all types of Tourists from sports to events etc. If you get the people here to Jersey at affordable prices then they will be spend on other local businesses on the island which generates more jobs and divertisfies areas of employment, rather totally depending on the Finance Industry for employment.

    Charity concerned

Perhaps in the spirit of openness that has prompted Mr Graham to tell us how much goes to charity he could also tell us what the Bodet Foundation’s administration costs are, including his salary.
