DOZENS of tourists flew into the Island today as a cruise ship holiday was launched from Jersey for the first time.
Seventy-three Danish tourists flew in on a chartered aircraft this morning to join the boutique cruise ship the Ocean Nova, which docked in the Harbour. They will sail on to Guernsey before heading to France.
More than 70 passengers on the ship also ended their holiday in Jersey and flew out of the Island during the afternoon on the same aircraft. It was the first time that tourists had started a cruise ship holiday in the Island.
Jersey Harbours commercial director Myra Shacklady said: ‘This is extremely good news for Jersey. It was beneficial for the Airport, as it received an private aircraft, it was beneficial for us, and it was beneficial for Jersey as a whole as both sets of passengers got to spend some time in the Island today.’
Great news congratulations to all at tourism and harbours for getting this business for the Island

‘Boutique cruise ship’…

It would make a big difference if we had a boat going to Southampton, would encourage a lot more locals to go to instead or relying on flights

I wonder what they thought of the incinerator on the water front? They wouldn’t have had much time for sightseeing, would they, what with flying out the same afternoon.
How many things did they buy in town or at the airport? It wouldn’t surprise me if it was very little. Did they find Jersey expensive for a low tax jurisdiction?

Cruise ship? 70 Passengers?
Well I suppose if it is offerring a cruise then it is a cruise ship.
I did, however, expect to see something a little more impressive.
Are they featuring the Dirouilles and Burhou?

Could these ships not moore somewhere off the northern/western/eastern parishes so they dont have to see town?
I am always appalled when i come home on the ferry about how ugly town is now.

Maybe I’m being a little picky on the standard of this story but we are told the number was DOZENS, then 73, then more than 70. This is in a story with four paragraphs, do the JEP know or was it a slow news day and they had to pad the story out?
Both sets of passengers got to spend some time on the Island today, so no boost to the hotels, maybe a boost to a few restaurants, maybe a boost to Connex, maybe a boost to taxi drivers but hardly a significant boost for Jersey as a whole!
