JERSEY Table Tennis Association president Chris Band is, to say the least, a very happy man after the Island’s players finally got their hands on the Aggregate Trophy at the weekend.

Jersey won by 60 matches to 50 for their first victory since 2001. Band said: ‘This ends nine years of hurt and I’m delighted. Every Jersey player played their hearts out to get a win to add a precious point to our score.

‘The last three matches of Saturday afternoon’s session proved to be the ones that sealed the overall victory.

‘Kay Lefebvre won her women’s match with Paula Le Ber and then Ollie Griggs had a sensational 3-2 win over Joshua Stacey following a 13-11 fifth game decider the Under 15 Open.

‘It was then left to 17-year-old Luke Walker. Luke was unaware of the importance of his final match but he won 11-1 in the deciding fifth game to seal the Aggregate Trophy win and he was mobbed by the Jersey team following his win.’
