James Walker goes Dutch as an unknown track awaits in Assen
Friday 14th May 2010, 3:00PM BST.
James Walker heads to Assen in Holland this weekend for round two of the Superleague Formula by Sonangol series.
The Jersey racer has put the disappointment of his difficult debut at Silverstone far behind him and is ready to race at the front in Assen.
James is a fast learner – and he will need to be, as he hasn’t raced at Assen before. Today’s free practice sessions will give him plenty of opportunity to learn the track, which has hosted some epic motorcycle races.
Once qualifying gets under way tomorrow afternoon, James will know the track and will be looking to show at least as strongly as he did at Silverstone, where he made it all the way through to the semi-finals.
‘I can’t wait to get back in the car, because we’ve had a very long break since the Silverstone races,’ he said. ‘Assen is a new circuit to me, but it’s one I have always wanted to race at.
‘It’s a very important weekend because I need to score points after the results at Silverstone. I know my car will be fast, so I have to get my head down and learn the circuit as quickly as I can. I’m confident I can do a good job in qualifying and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure I have good races in Holland.’
The Superleague action isn’t confined to the race track this weekend, as James will be heading into the centre of Assen this evening to take part in a demonstration through the streets. Qualifying takes place tomorrow afternoon and racing begins at 11 am on Sunday.
