Facebook site condemned by Island’s e-safety officer

A VICIOUS online hate campaign against three teenagers accused of assaulting a man last weekend has been condemned by the Island’s e-safety officer.
More than 800 people have joined a group on the social networking website Facebook calling for the girls, who are all believed to be under 18, to be prosecuted.
Many posts on the group’s wall are explicit and call for revenge. There are also threats aimed at the girls and calls for them to be ‘hanged’ for what they allegedly did. The group has been reported to Facebook and it is now up to the internet giant to decide what happens next.
Education’s e-safety officer, Jon Tarrant, described the site as a ‘major hate campaign’ and said it was ‘simply not acceptable’.‘The site constitutes a hate campaign against individual girls about circumstances maybe some of which will only be known to a small number of people,’ he said. ‘It has been reported to Facebook and it is now for them to deal with.’

There’s such a thing as an e-safety officer? Talk about jobs for the boys!

I have read the comments on the fb site and yes there are comments which call for revenge. But the aim of the group that I can see is for people to say that these girls should be prosecuted, which they should be, the threats are aimed at one girl which is unfair, but the teenagers just want their say.

Surely he can’t be sitting there saying that its ‘simply not acceptable’. What’s not bloody acceptable is 3 kids, which I know one of them, beat up a man, now that’s pathetic. Something needs to be done.
