No-fly zones lifted
Monday 17th May 2010, 3:00PM BST.
THE no-fly zones affecting flights to Northern Ireland, England and Wales were lifted this afternoon.
Air passengers have been facing severe disruption over the past 24 hours as a result of a new cloud of volcanic ash spreading into British airspace.
At least five flights to and from Gatwick were cancelled this morning and other return services to Edinburgh, Liverpool, the Isle of Man and Southampton were also axed.
The no-fly zones over Northern Ireland, England and Wales were lifted by the CAA this afternoon, as were the restrictions which were placed on Heathrow and Gatwick flights. Some passengers may still face cancelled or delayed flights as airlines try to reschedule flights, however.
