Jersey leave it late to storm the Beeches

THE Island’s junior rugby season closed on Sunday with JPromail League champions Jersey RFC 2nds lifting the JRA’s Sugden Cup for the sixth year on the bounce.
But it was a far from straightforward 35-19 victory over an impressive Pentagon Beeches, who led for most of what was an excellent final at St Peter.
Resplendent in their new kit from sponsors Pentagon, Beeches roared into a 12-0 lead with a forwards’ try under the posts from Colin Pereira, added to minutes later when centre Jason Hosty broke a tackle, then powered past the final cover to touch down to the right.
But the strength in depth that Jersey enjoy showed (they called on professional Talite Vaioletti in the second half, for what was probably his last performance in a Jersey shirt) and the ended the game with a comfortable lead.
