Island Band concert in Howard Davis Park
Thursday 20th May 2010, 12:00PM BST.
MORE than 2,000 Islanders were in Howard Davis Park for a charity concert on Monday night.
The Band of the Island of Jersey performed at the concert to raise money for the British Red Cross.
The event was held to mark the 65th anniversary of the Liberation and to recognise the efforts made by the charity to help Channel Islanders during the Second World War.
The British Red Cross sent parcels of food into the Island after the D-Day landings in 1944, and today helps out with worldwide disasters, including recently the Haiti earthquake.
The band’s musical director, Nick Manning, said that the night in Howard Davis Park was fantastic. ‘It was awesome,’ he said. ‘There were at least 2,000 people there. The star of the show was Sadie Rennard, who sang Beautiful Jersey, singing some of the words in Jersey French.’
