CATHOLICS ‘walked on water’ last weekend to raise money for a seafarers’ charity.

The group, which included the head of the Island’s Catholic Church Monsignor Nicholas France, raised around £2,500 for Apostleship of the Sea by walking the equivalent distance from Jersey to France on St Catherine’s Breakwater.

The event was such a success that the charity is now hoping to make it a national event next year, with representatives from across the UK coming over to Jersey especially to take part.

Mr France was unable to stay for the entire event because of other commitments – including a baptism – but Deacon the Rev Iain MacFirbhisigh said the day had gone very well.

‘It was a wonderful success and we raised something like £2,500 which is up on last year,’ he said.
