Security at the Hospital is already being reviewed

HOSPITAL staff are regularly attacked, spat at and verbally abused because security at the General Hospital is so poor, a health worker has revealed following an unprovoked attack on two elderly patients last week.

He says that the shocking assaults – one on an 89-year-old man – are just the tip of the iceberg and the problem is exacerbated by staff shortages and a lack of cash.

The member of staff at the General Hospital, who has asked to remain anonymous because he fears for his job, claims that nothing will be done until someone is seriously hurt.

He  claims that  nurses are regularly verbally and physically abused by violent patients and that there is no proper security provision. it is often left to a team of just three porters to protect staff and patients at night.

Following the assaults last week, Health said that an urgent review of hospital security was being carried out.

Lets hope Deputy Pryke sorts these problems out with the Senior Team before someone is hurt.Having said that the statement by the Deputy re the failure to appoint a new Medical Director before Richard Lane’s retirement says it all.Succession planning and risk management appears to be sadly lacking despite the size of the Senior Management team expanding rapidly.

The drunks and smack-heads in the parade are part of the problem, however the atrocious administrative procures at the hospital makes even mild mannered patients spit with rage!

I’m guessing that this has probably been blown out of proportion because of the recent attack of staff at the hospital. I’m sure it does happen, but this article makes it sound worse than it probably is.

Whats stopping the hospital from arranging security? 2 guys walk a few laps around the hospital a night. Done. The presence alone of security staff will surly prevent the violent and abusive people from stepping out of line.

The hospital should also operate a zero tolerance policy for people who are not mentally unstable. If you are abusive you can leave. refusing treatment is a risky policy but at the same time you have to send a message

The lack of cash is due to too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
