JERSEY’S Astros won the volleyball Upton on Saturday, beating Guernsey’s Nash Copy 3-1 at Haute Vallée School.

According to Astros’ captain Bero Bobus, the way that Astros played was just about as good as it gets. ‘Overall that was our best game of the season,’ he said. ‘Dave Davies as setter had a good game, Dan Noding as outside hitter was also good but, overall, everyone played well.

‘All were going for big hits which hasn’t happened much this season. Too often we’ve played a waiting game, expecting the opposition to make mistakes. Today we raised our game and were aggressive from the start.’

The Guernsey team admitted afterwards that they were surprised by the ferocity shown by Astros and that they had not expected so much pressure to be put upon them so early in the match.
