Hotel fined for Easter licensing breaches

THE Royal Yacht Hotel has been fined £14,300 for breaching licensing and entertainment regulations at Easter last year.
The hotel pleaded guilty to allowing people to drink in Drift Bar in the early hours of Saturday 12 April, breaching the terms of its licence as that night fell under the Easter licensing regulations.
It also admitted two counts of providing entertainment on 10 April, contrary to the terms of the Bailiff’s permission during Easter.
Police officers from the Licensing department wrote to all licensees several weeks before Easter last year stating the interpretation of aspects of the licensing law.
The hotel later gained legal advice which gave a different interpretation of the law. It went on to provide entertainment which it thought complied with the law.
