ISLAND marathon regular Andrew Hennessy and local favourite Jo Gorrod came out on top of a hot and challenging Co-operative Total Sport Half Marathon on Sunday.

UK-based Hennessy, a former winner of the Jersey Marathon, established an early lead and remained in front throughout to win the men’s event in 1 hr 16 min 16 sec.

Second across the line, and first lady, was Gorrod who conquered thoughts of retirement earlier in the race to finish with a personal best of 1.19.16.

The race attracted a record entry and Hennessy admitted he was expecting more of a challenge in the race from Les Fontaines Tavern, in St John, to the Five Mile Road.
