SWIMMER Emily Bashforth added to her Jeux des Iles medal collection in the Azores yesterday with another gold and silver.

It was a record-breaking performance which won her the gold as she touched home in 4.26.52 min to top the podium in the 400m freestyle, before adding a 50m freestyle silver swimming 28.47 sec, with team-mate Maria Kocot, fifth in 28.77 sec.

Bashforth was joined on the 400m podium by fellow Islander Ella Dias who took silver in 4.34.69. Dias was also edged into second in the 200m backstroke, finishing in 2.25.97, just 0.32 seconds behind the gold medallist from Sicily.

Beth Cumming twice missed out on a medal as she took fourth place in the 50m breast stroke in 38.17 sec, with Harriet Taylor, sixth in 38.75, and fourth in the 200m breast stroke (2.51.70) with Taylor fifth (2.59.95). Susanna Phillips swam 1.13.76 to finish sixth in the 100m butterfly.

This added to a successful previous day, which included gold for Kathryn Rothwell in the discus, and silver for Shadine Duquemin.
