Two who walked the walk
Tuesday 1st June 2010, 3:00PM BST.
TWO women have completed a 26.2-mile walk in memory of a friend who died of breast cancer.
Sandra Hingston (61) and Carol Heritage (59) took part in the Playtex Moonwalk on 15 May in London to raise money for breast cancer research.
They both work at law firm Voisin and did the walk, which started at midnight from Hyde Park, in memory of their former work colleague, Heather Louis, who died 18 months ago from breast cancer.
They have raised £2,850 so far for the charity Walk the Walk, which supports breast cancer research, and those who have cancer, with equipment and cash.
The team of two were called Heather’s Moonwalkers and dressed in bright pink bras decorated with feathers. They completed the challenge in eight hours.
The women agreed that the walk has been tough going. ‘The last six and a half miles were the worst part of the walk,’ Sandra said. ‘There were no blisters. We just felt sore, a bit achy and tired.’
Jersey-born Sandra, of St Clement, and Carol, who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon but now lives in St Mary, trained by walking from town to St Aubin and by doing the ten-mile Jersey Hospice Care Moonwalk.
Over 15,000 people took part in the walk and both women are currently thinking about signing up again for next year.
