Driver quits as Island skipper
Thursday 3rd June 2010, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY cricket star Ryan Driver has stepped down as captain of the Island side.
The 31-year-old believes that being in charge of the team has affected his playing form in recent months and that, following two successive demotions from world cricket leagues, things need to change.
He said: ‘A lot of thought went into my decision; it wasn’t a spur of the moment thing. I’ve had added responsibility at work and other things going on and it’s just not felt right in the last couple of months. It has affected my cricket so I think it’s best for the team if I step down.
‘I’ve been disappointed with my own performances recently and I don’t think me as captain is adding much.’

It’s a pity that Gommie has left the island ‘cos he’d be the ideal replacement

Personally I feel Andy Brown would be a fantastic captain for the island, given his vast years and experience.
