Services have also been provided for other States Members

From Susan Venton.
I REFER to the recent publications in your paper regarding Senator Le Main and his friendship with my husband, Frank Venton.
I am normally a very private person and would shy away from publicity of any kind. However, recent events have incensed me to write to you. I feel compelled to do so as a grave injustice has been perpetrated against Senator Le Main, in that he has, as a man of integrity, resigned from the office of Housing Minister.
Save for writing to the Royal Court and the Solicitor General to express his concern at the manner in which the prosecution against my husband and I was brought for a minor housing infraction (although the prosecution against me was dropped after nearly two years), Senator Le Main did not personally involve himself with or manage our case.
It was always officers of the Population Office that dealt with our case. Certain of those officers have made clear that we were misadvised. Senator Le Main merely made clear to the Court and the Prosecution that we had been treated differently to other people and that this was unfair.
This is exactly the sort of matter that the voting public would expect a responsible elected Member of the States to do, ie to protect the interests of members of the public.
For the record, although my husband and I knew Senator Le Main professionally, we were not ‘friends’ of his. For example, we have never been to one another’s homes or even lunched or dined with one another. In fact, we have never met with Senator Le Main socially.
My husband did provide certain printing services for Senator Le Main’s election campaign. However, this is not exceptional in any way. My husband has provided identical services for other current members of the States. There is no question of their good character being impugned in any way as a result of this. There is no good reason why doing so for Senator Le Main should impugn his standing in the community or the States.

I think you should name the other current members of the States whom your husband has contributed towards the costs of their campaigns. I take it he does this for totally altruistic reasons? Much like one would contribute to a charity? Only I guess in this case the money is going to help someone who is in a position of power.

Sorry Mrs Venton, but your husband broke Housing Laws, Terry Le Main lied, therefore why try and defend the indefensible.

Methinks she doth protest too much!

Doubtless in your opinion if you or husband had been going a little too fast in your no doubt excellent motor cars and you had been caught by the police then if Terry le Main had been Home Office Minister he would have been justified in helping your husband or yourself wriggle off the hook!
The house was let to people who were not qualified to occupy it and your husband was charged with doing so. Your husband may not have invited TlM around for cocktails but he printed large amounts of leaflets for him on a free basis.
TlM then tried to get your husband off.
Terry le Main stated that there was no connection between your husband and himself despite the register of member’s interests showing this link.
When the link was revealed he was forced to resign or face a no confidence vote on the basis of lying to the house that he would have lost.
It all seems pretty straight forward to me!

Kate, you forgot to mention, once again, what a grand job Terry has done turning the department around. You have previously told us that you live in States housing but I am now beginning to wonder if there is more to this championing of Le Main.
Anyhow, Mrs Venton’s letter should put this whole matter to bed as there is obviously not a jot or scintilla of truth in anyone’s misguided assumption that they were ever friends, shouldn’t it?

God’s Mentor said:
‘Only I guess in this case the money is going to help someone who is in a position of power.’
And then said person in power tries to get said altruistic contributor off a crime they have committed. Seems like there is a bit of a connection between the two to me.
Surely our Senators are not abusing their elected positions of power for personal gain?

Absolutely what you would expect a Senator to do. Maybe Senator Le Main could let us know how many other times he has written to the Royal Court and the Solicitor General to express his concern.
