BEACH rugby – a fast, enthralling version of the 15-aside game – is coming to Jersey.

JRA chairman Chris Scott, who is behind the 24 July tournament, admits that he is excited not only by the event but by the whole concept of a game played on a half-size beach pitch, which discounts line-outs and scrums but allows for tackles and which, of course, is played with an oval ball.

‘It’s an incredibly fast-moving game partly because when the ref says “tackle!” even if you’re standing up, you have to release the ball,’ Scott said.
