PLANS to close the hydrotherapy pool at the General Hospital to save money were revealed in the States this week.

Health Minister Anne Pryke said that one of the proposals of the comprehensive spending review – recently launched to reduce public sector spending – was to close the pool in the physiotherapy department.

But she added that two other hydrotherapy facilities would be made available for patients to use and that patients would also be offered treatment in the gym instead.

Some questions arise,if this happens.Where are these other pools? Are they States owned? If privately owned, how much will we,the taxpayer ,have to pay for their use? How will patients who are staying in hospital get to these places and at what cost? Where will the staff come from to carry out the treatment? When someone provides full financial details which prove that there will actually be a saving in this proposal, then an informed decision can be made.

I can think of better areas that the hospital can cut back on instead of impacting on patients treatments with such this ludicrous statement Anne Pryke has made – get rid of the enormous amount of overpaid secretary’s and managers and stop employing doctors and alike that can’t speak English!

An idea. Why don’t the states start charging the £1.50 for prescriptions again, and put the extra £ 1 to 2 million back into the health service. This was only put in place to be an election winner, and I’m sure that almost everyone can afford the £1.50 for their pills etc.

I had a car accident many years ago, and was very grateful for the use of the hospital pool, to help in my recovery re my back injuries. I think it is a disgrace that the cut backs have been made by closing the pool. I hope all patients who have used the pool in their treatments/recovery together and sign a petition to stop it being closed. The cost of using other pools will be a lot higher, and where will one have to travel to to use it! If a patient at the hospital has to have pool treatment, who will take them to the pool, (Private Ambulance?) accompany them etc….? This has not be thought out has it !!!!!!! Maybe Anne Pryke and other over paid minsters, should think about a pay cut it would help! Let’s hope they will never have the need to make use of the Hospital Pool! (Mind you, I bet they have one at home !!!_)

    Seriously!

“The document also reveals that the States received £71 million more than they spent in 2009 – £20 million more than expected”

So why the all the cuts?! And why are they all in the wrong places. How can we be paying these people so much to make the wrong decisions, all the time!
