A MAJOR refurbishment at St Clement’s Golf and Sports Centre has paved the way for the first-ever tennis club at the venue.

The sports centre has recently spent £30,000 on improving the tennis courts. It is the first time any significant work has been done on the courts in almost eight years. The refurbishment was intended for 2011 but due to health and safety concerns on the old courts the plans were brought forward.

The improvement has been significant to the point that manager Steve Davison wants to finally start a tennis club for the first time at a facility that has long hosted the sport.

The old courts have been repainted so that the perimeter of the court is a deep red, while the court remains green in order to improve visibility of the ball. The courts have also been treated, sprayed and sealed to give them a professional feel. A new benefit is also that rain water runs off much easier, which also makes them self cleaning during the winter months.
