Banahan’s tour ends early
Wednesday 16th June 2010, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY’S rugby powerhouse Matt Banahan has received a two-week suspension having been found guilty of a lifting tackle in England’s win over the Australian Barbarians yesterday.
He was charged for the tackle on Baa Baa’s replacement centre Berrick Barnes during England’s 15-9 win and becomes the third Red Rose player to be cited during the tour, following Dave Attwood and Mark Cueto in attending a hearing.
Banahan attended a disciplinary in Sydney last night where, despite the low-end three weeks suspension being further reduced to two, ending on 30 June, his tour Down Under was ended.
The 23-year-old Bath winger is now ruled out of the remaining two fixtures of the tour, Saturday’s second test against Australia and next Wednesday’s clash with New Zealand Maori.
Banahan has started both of England’s midweek games on tour so far, scoring a try in the draw in the first match with the Australian Barbarians last week.
