Grimes misses out on national final
Monday 21st June 2010, 3:00PM BST.
CHRISTINE GRIMES had victory snatched from her grasp just when it seemed that a place in the final of the British Isles women’s outdoor singles championship was hers for the taking in Worthing yesterday.
With the greens at the sport’s Sussex HQ in Beach House Park running true and free, conditions were very much to the Jersey champion’s liking, and she built up what looked like a winning lead over twice Scottish champion Lorraine Malloy.
Leading 11-4 after ten ends in the semi final, Grimes dropped seven shots to one between the 11th and 14th ends, but took a firm grip again to extend her lead to 20-13 after 22 ends.
Sadly – and inexplicably – she did not score again, as her experienced opponent got home, 21-20, with a 3-1-1-2-1 sequence.
