Watson’s Wimbledon show did us proud, says Raymond

HEATHER Watson’s first round performance at Wimbledon yesterday made the Channel Islands very proud.
That’s according to LTA tennis development officer Hugh Raymond who was delighted to see the Guernsey junior, who spent a lot of her younger years playing in Jersey, competing on the main stage.
He said: ‘She was so near yet so far. I really thought when she broke early on in the third set that she had the confidence to go through but she still did us very proud; she didn’t let us down.
‘She was playing on one of the most difficult courts so it must have been quite intimidating as you really feel the crowd looking down at you from the bridge.’
