States homes to be refurbished
Saturday 26th June 2010, 2:57PM BST.
STATES homes across the Island are to be improved as part of a £637,000 refurbishment project.
Cash to pay for the work at properties in Great Union Road and Town Mills, in St Helier, Pré de Talbot, in St Saviour, and St George’s estate, in St Ouen is coming from the fiscal stimulus fund, which was established to keep the economy ticking over during the recession.
The work will include roof replacements and upgrading windows and is due to be carried out by contractors employed by the Housing department this year.
Acting Treasury Minister Eddie Noel said: ‘All these projects will provide work for local business and labour, and are programmed to be undertaken substantially in 2010, which significantly increases public sector spending and investment in social housing stock.’
