GUERNSEY took the top five places in the Carey Olsen Inter Island Yacht Race from Guernsey to Jersey on Saturday.

However, there was some joy for Jersey as they won the Governor’s Cup inter-insular in St Aubin’s Bay yesterday, taking victory in the first two of three races.

In Saturday’s event, Guernsey yacht White Rabbit, skippered by Laurie Wilson, made the best of the difficult conditions to take the win from 42 finishers, in a time of four hours and 29 minutes.

The Melges 24 led from the start and took advantage of the inconsistent winds to take line honours and the overall trophy on corrected time by over 40 minutes. Former winner Tom Bombadil, skippered by Dave Williams, was the first Jersey boat in sixth place.

However, there was success for Jerseyman Tom Vallois, skipper of Super Q, who won the Young Skipper prize after finishing 13th overall, and the Horton family, aboard catamaran Sunbeam, who took the Family Crew Trophy in 35th overall.
