Postal service is a disgrace
Monday 28th June 2010, 3:00PM BST.
From June Beslievre.
WHAT an absolute disgrace this new postal service is. What possible justification is there for sitting on mail that has already been collected from the post box and then delivering it three days later on an Island nine miles by five.
On 19 June I received two letters postmarked 16th June from Jersey and one from the UK postmarked 18th June. How many people are aware that when they use the self-stick stamps they bought before prices went up that this is what they can expect?
It is particularly disgraceful that the above system includes hospital appointments. When unwell and told that an appointment will be made, it is worrying to have to wait several days to hear, only to find it is a purposely delayed letter.
The reason for the above, the Post Office tells us, is that ‘feedback has shown customers would like greater choice in the options open to them.
The only time I’ve heard anyone say anything about this is from business people who were asking for a second delivery.
The Post Office tells us ‘the priority service will provide next-day local delivery.’ Well, those who wanted a better choice already had that before the price went up, so no improvement there.
It would seem these price hikes and changes of delivery were all a great bluff to raise more money for a poorer service.

Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
June,
The decision to hold the mail for three days comes from the sender NOT the Post Office.
The sender pays less for a slower service.
I would be interested to hear from the Post Office what percent of mail is now held for three days and how much revenue this has cost them to provide a slower service.

re postal service; first class mail letter posted here in Phoenix, Arizona, to Raleigh, North Carolina, will arrive on the third day, a distance of over two thousand miles. Next day delivery would cost more! jrl

Jersey Post can not be blamed for delayed hospital appointments. The hospital is understaffed already. It is up to the patient to contact the department for an appointment.
