Trio topple British Isles champions
Thursday 1st July 2010, 3:00PM BST.
Jersey’s bowling brothers Terry and Richard Allen combined with veteran Brian Bisson to topple the defending champions in the quarter finals of the British Isles men’s outdoor triples championship in Worthing last night.
Drawn to play Guernsey’s Mick Hullock, Len Le Ber and Gary Pitschou, the Jersey trio were well aware that the Sarnians had won the title in Belfast last year – when Le Ber and Pitschou had Dave Lucas at lead.
No sooner had they won the title, than Lucas announced his retirement from international bowls, and Hullock has made an able deputy this season.
Bisson’s team took a grip from the start, taking an 8-0 lead after five ends, never allowed the talented Guernsey trio to get going, and powered to a 23-9 victory that earned them a place in today’s semi finals.
