And end is in sight to the roadworks and traffic delays

THERE is good news for anyone who has used Victoria Avenue over recent months – the roadworks are nearly finished.

Transport and Technical Services say that in just over two weeks, the extensive resurfacing project will finally come to an end, on schedule.

Transport Minister Mike Jackson said that he had been caught up in the chaos many times himself and thanked Islanders for their patience and understanding during the disruption.

‘Living in St Brelade and travelling to and from town as I do, I am well aware of the traffic delays the work has caused for motorists,’ he said. ‘Lane closures and reduced speed limits have been necessary to enable the work to go ahead.
‘The end is now in sight, and I would thank the public for their patience and understanding.’

“The end is now in sight, and I would thank the public for their patience and understanding.’

Not sure I do understand, we’ve just spent £12 million on a project that as far as I can tell was non urgent at a time when money is tight and tax increases inevitable. How the hell it took so long I can’t imagine, 2 lanes and less than 2 miles 9 months? I guess these “workers” will have to find somewhere else to sleep when this is finished.

Some thanks should be passed on to the residents living next to where work has taken place. I often go for late-night walks along the shore and am aware that they have been subjected to obscene levels of noise throughout the entire night. Presumably this overnight work has only been carried out because of their co-operation.

Could they define “on time”? Is that the on time & budget before they laid substandard Tarmac? Or the on time when the States were told 3 weeks 16 weeks ago or the on time to the extended estimate?? I’d like to predict England’s football placing from last week please…

The avenue is an utter disgrace. The surface is now worse than when they started. I hope no money is being handed over. Talking of a disgrace take a look at Maufant Village and the mess that has been made with the resurfacing there. I do hope Bob Hill is on the case for those residents and they will be compensated for the devaluing of their properties.

£12 million spent on a road and yet look over the seawall at the Millbrook outfall. Nothing done to make essential repairs to the now disintegrating granite box chamber with access trapdoor at the seawall hub, resulting from the March 2009 storm damage. It could and should have been repaired at a cost of less than a hundred pounds. As long as nothing is done, it will cost thousands more.

Does Ronez still exist in Jersey? I am sure years ago when they done roads it was always spot on. As someone mentions in France they complete miles of road in a week, why not in Jersey?

We would have been better off with round abouts at every junction. Problem solved! No more traffic jams and reduced speed at the same time. Shame no one thought about that….:0(

It is very easy to say on time when they just put back the “finish date” to whenever they like and as many times as may suit them. The road is nolonger straight and there are 50 fewer parking spaces. All paid for, when money is tight, by our taxes, which they now want to put up. I wonder if the ministers will now ask for another pay rise?
