A 58-YEAR-OLD shop assistant who stole £7,000 and jewellery from her employer has been jailed for a year by the Royal Court.
The court heard that Monica Phyllis Pallot took wads of £1,000 cash from family-run Pearce jewellers over a period of nine months, dipping into the shop’s safe to try to pay off her debts of £38,000.
Suffering from ill health, the shop owner did not notice the money missing at first. However, when he realised the key to the cash box was gone, he audited his accounts and ‘suspected’ that a total of £13,500 was missing.
When the owner of the shop made a complaint to the police, a secret camera was installed which captured Pallot red-handed on two separate occasions. he offences were committed between August 2009 and April 2010.
