Swim Easy haul in 29 medals from Special Olympics gala
Saturday 3rd July 2010, 2:58PM BST.
FOURTEEN Swim Easy Jersey team members returned with a tremendous total of 29 medals from the National Special Olympics South Regional Gala held in Reading last weekend.
Under the guidance of coaches Ken and Melissa Sheehan and assistant coaches Eric Maguire and Mark Jones, the swimmers’ lowest position was fourth place as they won eight gold medals, 13 silver and eight bronze.
Five speeding tickets were also issued while a total of 19 personal best times were recorded by the club’s biggest ever team attending a National event.
Speeding ticket awards are given when a time registered previously is improved upon by over 15 per cent.
The Swim Easy team varied between the ages of 18 and just over 50. The structure gives everyone an opportunity to compete on an equal basis and to their own ability with virtually no age restrictions.
