Magnificent seven for Emily
Monday 5th July 2010, 2:59PM BST.
JEUX des Iles golden girl Emily Bashforth rewrote the record books at the weekend by taking seven Island records at the Cardiff International Swimming Open.
The Island junior long course records in 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle were all lowered with the 200m and 800m swims also breaking senior Island records.
Although all five swims brought the AIB Tigers swimmer National qualifying times, only the 100m freestyle was rewarded with a bronze medal as she finished fourth in the other events.
Another record breaker was Giovanni Guarino who stripped six seconds off the 200m breast-stroke junior Island best with 2.33.20 min. He added an excellent 100m butterfly to get a place in the finals and got his second gold medal with a personal best 1.13.00 min in the 100m breast-stroke.
Fellow Tigers swimmer Ella Dias (13) swept the board in her 12-13 years’ events, winning gold medals in the 200m backstroke, 200m and 400m individual medley, 400m and 800m freestyle.
