ATHLETE Ross Jeffs smashed the Island triple-jump record in a UK league competition on Saturday, but his jump of 14.7m still only gave him fourth place.
Jeffs was representing the Channel Islands men’s team in the second British Athletics League Division 4 meeting, held in Bedford.
The three ahead of him all recorded distances of 15m plus, but CI coach Andrw Winnie pointed out that seven of the Glasgow athletes the team were competing against were wearing Great Britain tracksuits while the CI team had one.
He added that the CI team were short of eight of their best athletes, but that they remained in second place overall.
Meanwhile, having finished sixth in their first competition in Division 4 of the UK Women’s Athletic League last month, the CI women’s team finished seventh out of eight yesterday at Kingston.
