Havre des Pas lifeguard jobs saved
Wednesday 7th July 2010, 2:59PM BST.
THE Education Minister has bowed to public pressure and withdrawn controversial plans to axe the Havre des Pas swimming pool lifeguards.
Deputy James Reed faced a fierce backlash from Islanders and many politicians after proposing to cut the service as part of the public sector cost-cutting programme launched earlier this year.
But in a surprise announcement in the States yesterday, the Deputy revealed that he had now scrapped the plans and would find the savings from elsewhere in the department.

AND HES THE EDUCATION MINISTER, sounds like a clever guy, next the transport minister will take the bulbs out of traffic lights to cut down on electricity.

‘and would find the savings from elsewhere in the department’
Easy pickings James. Too many new ‘education’ initiatives’ started, too few ‘education’ initiatives’ completed. Suggestion?
Scrap the FISH fishmonger developmental training up at Highlands. This is staff training, not vocational training!

You have both commented off post so I’ll indulge also.
Don’t you think, that as the developed World exploits and rapes the Third World on a daily basis, that it has a moral duty to look after those far less fortunate. None more so than Jersey which derives a huge amount of its wealth from funds that have been siphoned from Third World countries using schemes developed by you guys in your tax havens.
Yes there’s a whole World out there beyond the shoreline of your greedy morally bankrupt little rock.

No. 1 Truthseeker Dont be ridiculous, there is nothing wrong with giving cash to charity whether it’s overseas or here in Jersey. In most cases it is collected by ordinary people most of whom are not rich.

4,We did not cause it ..and we can not cure it…I will not be guilt tripped into anything ,and nor should any independent thinker…we need to get real here.

I take it you live somewhere other than Jersey ?
Please enlighten us to which perfect community you belong so I can reply to your holier than thou dribble in a similarly insulting vein.

Yes, Charity begins at home…but shouldn’t end there.
Well said Gingerman!

gingerman(5) the biggest rape of the third world was in the days when most of the map was painted pink.
as i have travelled i now know the world is round.

Maybe in your travels, David, you haven’t yet met some of the many inhabitants of the formerly pink countries who wish they were still coloured pink? I mean indiginous inhabitants who regret the way their homelands have gone since independence, rather than descendants of the purported rapists.

PJG you’re right, I no longer live in Jersey nor do I live in a perfect community. As most us are aware, none such exists.
I lived in Jersey for eight years working on a contact basis consulting in compliance and regulatory matters, so believe me, I have a very good understanding of the morality of your sole industry/wealth generator. In fact, during my time there, I collected several files which would suggest that I may be being charitable in my description.

thank you, it is always nice to have independant thinkers and a the well travelled reconfirming my suggestion that there may be difficulty for some island residents seeing further than thier shoreline.

r b bougourd(11) yes i did , meet some of the older generation, who wished the map was still pink, and some who “stayed on” and alway listened to both sides of the coin.
