Thursday 8th July 2010, 3:00PM BST.

The news that States Members are proposing to give themselves a two per cent pay rise angered many Islanders, including Carole Penfold whose letter to the editor is published in today’s JEP.

‘We have to cut costs’ is something we are constantly hearing. We, the general public, voted our States Members into power and I would like to see them lead by example. Senator Ben Shenton has the right idea. He is still trying to cut costs.
We need our health service and education; we need to look after our pensioners. We must put the money into these services and not into the States Members’ pockets.’
