ISLANDERS will be invited to learn about Jersey’s rich farming history at this weekend’s Jersey Evening Post West Show.

A family heritage trail has been created specially for the event in St Peter on Saturday and Sunday.

The idea was dreamt up by Jersey Heritage, who have been working with Jersey Dairy to throw light on what has been a very important part of Island life for centuries.

It will be just one of a range of activities at this year’s event, which will provide a cocktail of high adrenalin action and traditional summer favourites.

One of the world’s top motorcycle freestyle motocross stunt display teams, the Bolddog Lings, will perform breathtaking stunts alongside a falconry display and livestock shows.

Helen Otterwell, Jersey Heritage’s family events co-ordinator, said: ‘The trail is spread out across the West Show, and each of the three trail points looks at a different part of our farming and rural heritage. We are grateful to Jersey Dairy for supporting the Heritage Trail and to the organisers of the West Show who have arranged for us to be at the event.’

She added: ‘Jersey Heritage is delighted to have been invited to join the West Show this year. The show is an important part of the summer calendar as it provides the perfect place to help educate, inform and promote public interest in Jersey’s rural history and culture.’

Christopher Journeaux, marketing director at Jersey Dairy, said: ‘Jersey’s farming heritage is woven into the fabric of our history and sits at the core of our future.

Communicating this to children at an event so well attended by the Island’s population is a great opportunity that we are delighted to be involved in. Designed and run by Jersey Heritage we know the Heritage Trail will be of the highest quality.’
