Jersey’s budget deficit

Thursday 8th July 2010, 3:00PM BST.

This week’s comment by Peter Body considers Jersey’s budget deficit and how it should be dealt with.

‘We’re all too immersed in the details when we’re still in the middle of a very relevant consultation about tax and when there is little apparent consensus about how the Island needs to deal with its deficit.
This might all be as a result of the panic that the Council of Ministers says doesn’t exist. So if there is no panic, why are they rushing ahead like an unstoppable train before they have even asked for the support of the States?
Even the Isle of Man is taking five years to sort out their budget difficulties.’
