Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf took the proposition to the States

STATES Members have approved almost £15m in extra spending to cover legal and prosecution costs and a voluntary redundancy package.

After a long debate, States Members backed the package by margins of between seven and 22 votes.

Their decision means that departments will get an extra £7.7m to cover court and case costs, that £6m will be put into the voluntary redundancy scheme and that £500,000 will be put into services for purchasing goods and services to push future savings.

    The COM fairytale:
The COM have a magic bag that produces endless money and all they have to do is wish for it and magically it appears.

    The Taxpayers Grimm fairytale:
The COM have a magic bag that produces endless money and all they have to do is wish for it and magically it appears.

I now honestly believe with all my heart that the states and council of ministers are totally out of touch with reality and can’t control spending. I always held out hope but the recent headlines and flagrant over spends by various departments have killed off any hope I had.

Settling out of court might have been cheaper.

Oh yeah you did that already.

We have set aside money for voluntary redundancies when in fact we don’t have any idea how far we are going down that road. One may suspect this is a tactical future provision – “We have the money there so might as well make the redundancies”.

Another 15 million that the taxpayer will have to pay for in increased taxes. 22 states members voted for these increases, that says alot about those states members.

Stop spending money on things that you cannot afford. Suspensions and court cases only make money for the lawyers and those with a vested interest in creating these situations in the first place.

The States have lost all finacial control of he public purse. We are supposed to be saving 100 million and we just spent another 15 million. In any other business they would have been removed now and a new managment board put in place.

If you look at peoples actions you can allow yourself to make judgement on them. I have, and have come to the conclusion that brains don’t make it into the states, only the dummies do.
Ive noticed when it comes to figures published by states members you don’t get 2×2= 4 you get 2×2= 12. 12 oops, did we make a mistake on the calculations, oh well its not our money, we have none, its only tax payers paying for all the mistakes so we don’t really care.
Im going to call the states, The Jersey Labour party.

You cannot call them the Jersey Labour Party as Labour implies Work and Party implies Fun.

Neither of which applies to the States.
