THE £1,000-a-day consultant brought to Jersey to save money has prompted a furious reaction from ‘Angry Men’ campaigner Roger Trower.

Mr Trower, who led thousands of Islanders in the Royal Square in protest against the 2004 Budget, says that yet again ministers were going with their gut reaction of spending their way out of trouble.

His comments follow the revelations that the temporary Treasurer, Hugh McGarel-Groves, is costing Islanders £950 per day and is staying at one of Jersey’s most luxurious hotels while he tries to come up with ways to save money.

It’s simple Roger: if you think you can do better apply to become a States senior civil servant.

Roger Trower and the ‘Angry Men’ are surprisingly astute in the simple line that the states are “trying to spend their way out of trouble”

Unfortunately the only thing our states are good at especially since the COM and CM have come to pass and accountability has totally evaporated is spend.

Please Please arrange another high profile protest.

1,000-a-day consultant – sounds VERY REASONABLE! Compare with Jersey lawyers at £300 per hour! The problem Jersey faces is that there too many fat cats on this island who happily rake in insane amounts of money whilst many struggle to pay the rent. Morality and ethics seems totally unknown to many here.

Time for another protest in the square now Roger…been a while…Perhaps a nerve will be touched, a decision reviewed, a sudden unexpected pang of honesty experienced or the last flickering ember a conscience pricked….That’s what we need TROWER POWER…

What’s the point of protesting, 7000 of us did the ‘line in the sand’ protest and what did it achieve?? Nada. The States couldn’t give a toss what the public want.

4.Michel – spot on!!! The £1k per day doesn’t include pension, soc sec contributions, paid annual leave, statutory sick pay, paternity pay etc. Indeed if he helps deliver the £50 million cut then surely he represents excellent vfm!!

And how much do you charge to sell a 3 bed semi for half a million when it gets sold within an afternoon?
A little introspection would not go amiss!

#4 Thankfully Michel it’s not the majority, just those that have managed to buy their way into power or into friendships with people who have power. The States understand the power of money, but what we actually need in the States is people who understand the value of it! Those are two different things.

Are States’ Members so frivolous with their personal finances? I doubt it somehow.
