Former BBC executive Alan Le Breton this week takes a look at the proposed radio ‘digital switchover’ set for 2015.
‘A couple of weeks ago, as I negotiated the queue snaking all the way back from the new Post Office facility into the Hi-Fi department in Home Maker, I spotted a display of digital radios for sale. A bold move, given that as far as I knew, you can’t yet pick up a signal locally. I know that because since I brought back a couple of similar radios from London in 2006, they’ve remained packed in their boxes. The salesman knew that too but, he assured me, by 2015, they’ll be all that you can buy.’
