A ‘spending bonanza’

The damning reports on the police mismanagement of the historical abuse inquiry and the cost are among the subjects raised this week by JEP columnist Christine Herbert.

‘It now appears that not only was the scant evidence reported in a way which fuelled unsubstantiated speculation, but that in addition those police officers involved took part in a spending bonanza that notched up a total of £12 million of taxpayers’ money, some of which was enjoyed in the finest restaurants – in London as well as in Jersey – or added to already bulging pay packets.

Furthermore, of the two officers in charge of this mismanagement, one has already retired from his post and the other is about to do so. Neither, it seems, can be properly disciplined in any meaningful way.

I bet the police officers who benefited couldn’t believe their luck. They probably thought they had gone to heaven.’
