Lee Wells swims to the guard boat with a tow line after the Jenny B and crew capsized off Gorey, 12 minutes into the race
ALL three Jersey lifeboats were called out on Saturday after several boats in the Gorey-to-Carteret rowing race capsized in rough seas.
The new St Catherine’s station boat was launched following reports that two boats had been swamped by four-foot-high waves off the breakwater. Both St Helier lifeboats were then launched because of concern about the rest of the rowing fleet.
The St Catherine boat was alongside the stricken boats within ten minutes of being paged and found them being towed by their guard boats.
Several other boats capsized, with some being forced to abandon the race.
