Jersey to Carteret rowing race
Wednesday 21st July 2010, 2:59PM BST.
Jersey rowers James Salkeld and Paul Coutanche triumphed over their Guernsey rivals in a difficult race to Carteret on Saturday.
The duo powered through the waves to lead the fleet towards the finish but were overtaken in the final minutes by a men’s four – Guernsey champions Geomarine – who beat them to the line by just ten seconds.
The rough conditions meant that two men’s fours boats were swamped by waves within the first 15 minutes and the crews were not able to continue. And two pairs crews were knocked out of their boats by waves but one was able to get back in and carry on to the finish.
